There's warmth in Iceland

Iceland remains one of those mysterious places I wish to travel.  From what I had seen on film it is a mix of rustic and minimalism.  Or extreme versions of either.  But what do I know?

Interior Designer, Rut Karadottir's home in Reykjavik exudes warmth and elegance.  I came across her website www.rutkara.is, and again I've fallen in love over and over...

Oh those Swedes!

Scandinavian interiors have a very distinct atmosphere.  Crisp, white, bright, and sometimes with quirky, unexpected touches.  

Kristina Lifors is a Swedish interior designer who earned a spot on Skona Hem this year.  Incorporated in this project are the client's love for light fixtures (admittedly, I have the same fixation!) and some classic pieces.  Kristina had clever ways of using IKEA staple pieces (can you spot them??) and mixing smooth, glossy finishes with textured items.  This home is a dream...  I think I found my new hero.

Grey Matters

I get weak at the knees when I spy black + white + wood interiors...  But man,  when Davide Lovatti photographs interiors like these, grey does matter.  All the photographs are exquisite compositions.  I can't get over the tastefulness of objects, finishes, natural light, art and textures!  It's quite a fantasy...  Move in, or move on?

Op Art Envy

Brazilian architects Antonio Junior Feriera and Mario Celso Bernardes merged talents and have become the dynamic duo of Brazil.  Exploring both architecture and interior design, they challenge conventional structure and finishes, often including humour and surprise.  Their Buenos Aires project shows the love for Op Art and Midcentury details.  The owners must be Art Addicts!  I think I have Op Art envy...

For the Birds

As early as 5.45 AM I hear birds as I stroll to the train station each morning...  Singing, chirping, crying, perhaps even woo-ing.  Our winged friends need better homes.
